DBSA South Florida provides support groups which are a safe space for people who live with mood disorders can share their experience and find hope. Support groups are peer to peer meetings, they're not a replacement for medication or therapy but a complement to them.
Each support group is led by a facilitator who is a volunteer and participates as another peer. Meetings are structure in the following format: Introductions, Topic(s) Selection and Discussion, Closing. These meetings can be in-person, virtual or hybrid, also can be grouped by gender, audience and/or language. Support groups welcome family members and friends as part of our members' support network.
However, professionals or students who want to visit to observe these meetings are not allowed out of respect and confidentiality of our members. A formal request must be submitted to DBSA South Florida by a public or private organization and subject for approval by its Board of Directors. These scenarios are managed separately in focal group environment with a member of the Board and a few facilitators.
